At Maven, we recognise the critical need to bridge the gender gap in the finance industry and support young women in their career journeys. Partnering with Future Asset allows us to provide invaluable guidance, encouraging a more diverse and inclusive future for the investment industry.
The Alumni Careers Insight Day commenced with a series of workshops designed to deepen participants' understanding of the finance sector. Students engaged in sessions that covered industry trends, apprenticeships, traineeships and essential skills for career advancement. The interactive format allowed attendees to actively participate and build confidence in their professional abilities.
Following a networking lunch, which provided opportunity for alumni to connect with industry professionals, the participants embarked on workplace visits to sponsor and member firms. At Maven’s Edinburgh office, students from Larbert High School, Morrison's Academy, and Edinburgh Napier University met key members of our team, including Alan Robertson, Partner; Lorna Kelly, Strategic Development Director; Marta Szydlowska, HR Business Partner and Victoria McLaren, Investment Manager.
The office visit offered students a behind-the-scenes look at Maven’s operations and the various roles within the company and our team shared insights about their roles at Maven and discussed the various pathways into the industry. This hands-on experience was invaluable in showcasing the diverse career opportunities available in investment management.
Last year, Maven welcomed pupils from Williamwood High School and Mary Erskine School, with Katie MacRaild, Director of Co-Investment, and Lorna Kelly mentoring them for the Future Asset Investment Competition. This initiative invites teams from Scottish secondary schools to pitch investment opportunities in impactful companies, offering chances to win cash prizes.
“It’s inspiring to see so many young women eager to learn about the investment industry. Events like these are crucial for providing the support and guidance needed to navigate and succeed in this field. As proud members of Future Asset, we are delighted to provide opportunities for young women to learn about this area of finance.”
