The Midlands Engine Investment Fund (“MEIF”) Debt Finance, managed by Maven, has provided Warwickshire-based Opus, with a £100,000 funding package. This will enable the business to embark on a programme of growth, after winning an Innovate UK grant to develop and deliver Open-eObs, a fully open source electronic patient observation solution designed for the NHS. The funding will also allow Opus to create five new jobs in Warwickshire.

Opus develops customised solutions to address business needs that are not met by off-the-shelf software packages. The company provides business and technology services for the full project life cycle, aiming to understand a client’s needs and implement a technology solution to fit those needs. Current project work on Open e-Obs will see Opus develop an innovative patient monitoring system which in turn will support improvements within the UK healthcare system.

Backed by a highly experienced management team, CEO, Stuart Mackintosh, founded the company in 1999 and has grown the business to where it is today. Mackintosh has over 20 years’ experience in business strategy, project recovery, open source policy and implementation. Mackintosh is a member and Chairman of OpenUK and a speaker at various open source events.

“The funding package we have received from MEIF and Maven will support our delivery of the DITO project which is also funded by Innovate UK. Through this project, we will enable the UK public health and care sector to access professional open source to increase use of proprietary solutions. We are looking forward to expanding our team, unlocking new market opportunities and entering our next phase of growth.”

Stuart Mackintosh, CEO of Opus

“Opus is an established open source software developer who has just secured a mandate to deliver an exciting open source patient monitoring system. As well as helping save lives, it will also be a blueprint for the acceptance and rollout of open source systems integrated into the NHS network, thus creating further opportunities for Opus to win future NHS projects. We look forward to working with Stuart and the Opus team to help deliver the growth ambitions of the business and support job creation within Warwickshire.”
