Maven Capital Partners, a subsidiary of Mattioli Woods, is looking for a Portfolio Associate to join our London/South team. This role will report directly to the Portfolio Director.

 

The main purpose of the role is to provide support to the senior portfolio team in driving value creation within the private company investment portfolio by monitoring growth and cash requirements against plan, undertaking analysis, and preparing regular reports for Maven investment committee to review progress. The candidate will also work with the portfolio team in providing support and guidance to investee company management teams, challenging strategy, supporting the delivery of value creation plans and utilising professional network contacts where appropriate, with the overall aim of increasing shareholder value.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate with experience of working in venture capital, private equity, corporate finance, professional services, audit, advisory or banking. 

 

This is a full-time, office-based role of 34.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

What you need to succeed

  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant work experience.
  • Analytical skills – numerate with an ability to research new industry sectors, assimilate information quickly and infer appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Competent Excel modelling skills.Clear and professional verbal and written communication style, with strong attention to detail.
  • Team player with the ability to collaborate well with colleagues at all levels.
  • Relationship management skills - an ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Resilient and resourceful when supporting the portfolio management function in addressing challenging situations with investee businesses.
  • Organisational skills - ability to multi-task, work to and meet deadlines.
  • Business knowledge – understanding of the commercial parameters that businesses operate within and a professional approach in dealing with investee companies.
  • Degree in a relevant numerate discipline.

    Desirable:
  • Holds or working towards a professional Accountancy or investment related qualification

The Role & Responsibilities

  • Supporting the portfolio management function in attendance at investee company board meetings and meetings with management teams to provide strategic support and constructive challenge.
  • Regular liaison with portfolio companies, ensuring regular provision of information.
  • Assisting in portfolio management of investee business to understand the dynamics of business growth, including analysis of management accounts and board packs.
  • Assist in the production of robust and insightful monthly/quarterly updates and reviews of the individual and consolidated SME business performance within the portfolio.
  • Updating the fund administration platform with monthly investee company financial performance and quarterly valuations data.
  • Support the production of investment committee proposals for follow-on funding or amendments to the investment terms.
  • The post holder will carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager or a member of the leadership team.
